Sehwag lauds team effort

"Dravid is doing well at the helm. In the recent past, we have not won four matches consecutively. This is a good thing to have happenned to Indian cricket," Vengsarkar said here.

"In the current scenario, Dravid should be persisted with as captain in both forms of the game," Vengsarkar told newspersons when asked whether India should have separate skippers for One Day Internationals and Tests.

"A player who does well in Tests, is likely to do well in one-dayers also. But there is no guarantee that one doing well in ODIs will do so in Tests also," Vengsarkar said.

But the former stylish batsman felt that Sourav Ganguly had it in him to bounce back into the team. "I believe he has the potential to come back. He is fit. If he can prove himself he can certainly be back," he said.

Expressing satisfaction with the showing of the younger lot in the current series in Sri Lanka, Vengsarkar heaped praise on Irfan Pathan, S Sreesanth and RP Singh.

Vengsarkar, the chairman of the BCCIs Talent Resource Development Wing, said that the role played by the National Cricket Academy and the Talent Resource Development Officers (TRDO) have started bearing fruit.

"The success of these youngsters is a combination of the coordinated work put in by the TRDOs and the NCA," he said.

Vengsarkar said with Indian coach Greg Chappell's emphasis on taking in young blood, the coordination between the senior and junior national committees have increased.
