Hyderabad: The prestigious Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) of Hyderabad, a joint venture project taken up by the Ministry of Railways and the Andhra Pradesh Government on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis, will be inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on August nine.
He will flag off the first MMTS train from Secunderabad railway station on the occasion. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest at the function, which will be presided over by Railway Minister Nitish Kumar, a South-Central Railway release said today.
The first phase of the MMTS project, comprising two streams between Secunderabad-Hyderabad-Lingampalli and Secunderabad- Falaknuma measuring a total distance of 43.04 km, has been undertaken at a sanctioned cost of Rs 69.65 crore towards strengthening of infrastructure and Rs 92 crore for rolling stock.
The stream-1, being commissioned between Secunderabad-Hyderabad- Lingampalli, would have a length of 28.50 km, covering 16 railway stations, ten of them newly built.
A total of 48 train services will run, covering both the directions, starting from 0430 hrs till 2315 hrs, the release added.
