Sensex shines as power stocks, capital goods in demand

Thanks to sustained buying across the board, the market remains high up in the positive territory around noon today. Realty, bank, power, capital goods, FMCG and PSU stocks rule firm with impressive gains.

Oil, auto, metal, pharma and IT stocks also remain positive. Thanks to strong buying in midcap and smallcap stocks, the Midcap and Smallcap indices have moved up by 2.32% and 2.63% respectively.

The Sensex, which rose to a high of 13,931.01 this morning, is up with a strong gain of 418.18 points or 3.13% at 13,767.83 now. The Nifty has gained 115.20 points or 2.89% at 4103.75.

Reliance Infrastructure (up 6.75%), a power major, remains the top gainer in the Sensex. BHEL has recorded a gain of 4.8%. Power Grid Corporation, Reliance Power and GMR Infrastructure are up by 4.65%, 4.3% and 4.25% respectively.

Tata Power and ABB are up by over 3.5%. Siemens, Torrent Power, Suzlon Energy, GVK Power, Crompton Greaves, NTPC and Areva are also up with strong gains.

Alstom Projects tops the gainers from the capital goods space. At Rs 436.50, the stock is up by as much as 8% now. Bharat Electronics has gained 5.4%. Larsen & Toubro, Lakshmi Machine Works, Punjab Lloyd, Siemens, Havells India, Crompton Greaves, Praj Industries, Jyoti Structures, Elecon Engineering, Kirloskar Brothers, Kirloskar Oil Engines and Thermax are among the other prominent gainers.

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd has announced that the company has bagged the order of the value of Rs 409.71 crores for "Investigation, Design and Execution of Lift Scheme from Thotapally Reservoir to Gouravelly Reservoir including tunnel and other allied works near Regonda village, Husnabad Mandal of Karimnagar District" from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Irrigation & CAD Department.

The IVRCL Infrastructures stock has gained 2.65% at Rs 308.50 at present. Around 1.37 lakh shares have changed hands at the IVRCL counter on BSE today. On the National Stock Exchange the stock is up by 3.1% at Rs 309. Over 4.5 lakh IVRCL shares have been traded so far on NSE today.
