After moving in a tight band for around a couple of hours, the Sensex has resumed its journey up north thanks to a buying in blue chip stocks gathering some momentum. At 16,449.38, the Sensex is up by 0.62% or 100.88 points at present.

The Nifty has surged to 4923.60, up 1% or 48.55 points over its previous closing mark.

Jaiprakash Associates has rallied to the top spot on the Sensex gainers list thanks to strong buying at the counter. At Rs 231.70, the stock has gained 3.25% now. Wipro has firmed up to Rs 494, up 3.2% over its previous closing price. Reliance Natural Resources, ITC, Reliance Communications, Ambuja Cements, Satyam Computer Services, BHEL and Cipla are up by 2% - 3%.
DLF, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Tata Consultancy Services, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys Technologies and Bharti Airtel are also up in the positive territory with notable gains.
Thermax, which jumped on reports of a new order win, has moved up further in the positive territory to Rs 456.15, netting a gain of 6.1%. Videocon Industries, Nagarjuna Fertilizers & Chemicals, Chambal Fertilizers, Cummins India, i-Flex Solutions, Aban Offshore, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Neyveli Lignite Corporation, HMT, Crompton Greaves, Kotak Bank, Mangalore Refineries & Petrochemicals, Gujarat NRE Coke, JSW Steel, Rajesh Exports and Tata Chemicals are among the other prominent gainers from BSE 'A' Group.
