Companies should follow the practice of taking stock of their financial position in a periodical manner during “things-go-fine” times. They should also appoint a team of business economists that constantly analyzes and evaluates the company's business situation, and provides economic forecast of the factors affecting the health of the company. It will help companies build their financial reserves during good times so as to insulate themselves during tough times.
Besides, periodical and critical evaluation of human resources should also be carried out with clear set strategies. This will help companies stay lean all the times giving higher levels of productivity and put the overhead costs under strict control.
Such practices will prevent companies from giving surprises through layoffs and salary trimming during difficult economic conditions.
