Every Mahindra passenger vehicle of the last decade and more has always seemed like it has carried forward the company's historic association with utility vehicles. Well, in terms of a niche that the company held on to, it clearly was the right decision and will continue to be so.
But, in terms of refinement, quality of interiors, comfort and ride quality, Mahindra's passenger vehicles have, in the past, reflected a kind of genetic resemblance to their pick-ups and UVs. Large overhangs, bouncy ride quality due to previous generation suspensions and grab handles all over (including on the dashboard fascia) were all features that would invariably take the rider's mind back to the company's utilitarian focus for its vehicles.
The Scorpio was a departure from this influence, though not entirely, and the first generation of this sports utility vehicle did have its share of refinement and ride quality issues. The Scorpio, till recently, was Mahindra's most famous passenger vehicle and the best choice for someone looking for a SUV that can hold its own against the others from multinational car makers.
