| Sensex, Nifty hold gains @ 12:41 hrs | SIFY | |||||||||
Thanks to sustained buying in several blue chip stocks, the market remains well placed in the positive territory in early afternoon trade today. Strong Asian markets and heavy buying in Reliance Industries on the back of reports that the company has made its bid to acquire LyondellBasell have contributed to the upswing today. At 17,165, a few points off the day's high of 17,181.87, the Sensex is now up 143.16 points or 0.84% over its previous closing mark. The Nifty has posted a gain of 47 points or 0.93% at 5099.45.
Reliance Industries, the top gainer in the Sensex, is up 3.25% at Rs 2193.50. FMCG heavyweight ITC has notched up a gain of 2.2% at Rs 265.60. Tata Steel has gained over 2% at Rs 562.70. Tata Power, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Grasim Industries, ONGC, ACC and Hindustan Unilever have gained 1% - 2%. Check out our new Live markets page Hero Honda, HDFC Bank, Sterlite Industries, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Communications, Larsen & Toubro and DLF are up with notable gains. GAIL India has rallied to Rs 403, recording a gain of 3.5%. Cipla, Reliance Capital, HCL Technologies and Siemens have gained 2% - 2.5%. SAIL, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank, ABB, Reliance Power, Cairn India and Ambuja Cements are up with sharp to moderate gains. Bharti Airtel continues to languish in the red with a sharp loss. At Rs 280.80, the telecom major is down 2.75% from last Friday's closing price. Idea Cellular, Hindalco, Suzlon Energy, Power Grid Corporation, Infosys Technologies and Unitech are down by 0.4% - 1.5%. Junior Nifty stock Bharat Electronics has gained 5.3% at Rs 1655.60. United Phosphorus has moved up to Rs 140, recording a sharp gain of 3.75%. India Bulls Real Estate, Union Bank of India, Patni Computer Systems, Ultratech Cement, Corporation Bank, Mundra Port, Biocon and HDIL are also trading notably higher. Andhra Bank, Ashok Leyland, Syndicate Bank, Bharat Forge, Mphasis, Container Corporation, Moser Baer, LIC Housing Finance, Dr Reddy's Laboratories and Colgate Palmolive have declined on selling pressure. Dena Bank is among the most actively traded stocks today. The Dena Bank counter on the National Stock Exchange has clocked a volume of around 15.7 million so far in the day. However, at Rs 80.70, the stock is down in the red with a modest loss of 0.85%. |
