Palaniappan Chidambaram, the high-profile Union Finance Minister,
was always in news for some reason or the other.
All
his new proposals such as FBT (fringe benefit tax), BCCT (banking
cash transaction tax), EPF interest rate cut, PSU divestment plans,
numerous FTA pacts, revised taxation norms and a host of other issues
got both bouquets and brickbats.
Despite
the weather turning rough, both literally and figuratively, Chidambaram
managed a good balancing act especially with the Left as his coalition
partner.
