Concert Review of Vasumathi Badrinathan |
|
Mumbai-based vocalist-cum-dancer Vasumathi Badrinathan has come to Chennai for the December Music Festival. She is here not to give a dance performance but to demonstrate her singing prowess. She gave a two-hour concert at the Parthasarathy Sabha on the afternoon of December 21, 2004. Since she is not all that known in this part, the audience size was understandably limited. |

Academy gets into act |

The Music Academy would have almost gone concert-less this season. Thanks to a eleventh hour intervention by the Madras High Court, the business is back at the Academy. And, the schedule for Season 2004 is out in time. Bombay Jayashri and Sudha Raghunathan will be there at the Academy on the evening of 28th December, 2004. |

Season 2004 will have kutcheries at the famed Music Academy. Rasikas must thank the Madras High Court for this. By ordering the status quo in the affairs of the Academy, the Madras High Court has facilitated holding of concerts this Season at the Music Academy. |

The violin concert of the father-daughter duo of M.S.Gopalakrishnan and Narmada at Dakshinamoorthy Auditorium on Sunday, December 19, 2004, was exhilarating. It began with a Natakurinji Varnam “Chalamela” of Moolai Veedu Rangaswami Pillai. It started briskly and set the stage subsequently for an exciting evening experience. It was followed by a Dikshitar kriti “Mahaganapathim” in raga Gaula. |

Java TV has organized a thematic presentation of concerts this Marghazi season at Chettinad Vidyashram, Chennai. Bombay Jayashri had chosen Tamil compositions as her concert theme. She excelled in rendering Papanasam Sivan’s “Vellane Siva Balane” in Behag and Gopalakrishna Bharathi’s “Sabapathiku” in Abhogi. |

It was a lively concert at Rani Seethai Hall on the evening of Saturday, December 18, 2004. Bombay Jayashri began the concert with a brisk Begada Varnam “Inthachala”. Then came a Dikshitar kriti “Sri Varalakshmi” in Sri raga. It was replete with kalpanaswaras and was intensely absorbing. The next kriti was “Makelara” in raga Ravichandrika. |
