Chennai, Jan 27: Veldurai Thevar, a key accused in the Aladi Aruna murder case, was brought here by a flight from Mumbai this evening en route to Madurai, by a three member police team, police said.
The accused was kept in a room at the airport belonging to police for the connecting flight to Madurai, the sources said, adding he would be taken to Tirunelveli by road from Madurai.
The Tamil Nadu and Gujarat police in a joint operation at Ahmedabad yesterday arrested Veldurai, wanted in connection with the murder of former Tamil Nadu minister Aladi Aruna.
A Ahmedabad report, quoting police, had said that the team managed to get hold of Veldurai while another accused Benny died, after they consumed poison when the police stormed the place where they were staying.
Aladi Aruna and his friend Prof Ponraj were murdered on December 31 at Alankulam in Tirunelveli district.
Seven persons, including Veldurai, had been arrested in connection with the case.
''Auto'' Bhasker, another suspect in the case, was found dead while in police custody on January 20, but police said he died in a hospital after he fainted. (Our Correspondent) |
