The DMK and its allies have performed a hat-trick when they swept the civic polls in the state held in two phases on October 13 and 15.
The alliance achieved the hat-trick when it romped home in all the six municipal corporations, 114 municipalities and all the 29 district panchayats in the state.
In the elections to the Lok Sabha in 2004, the alliance had won all the 39 seats and in the elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly in May this year, 166 of the 234 seats went to the alliance.
The DMK yesterday recaptured the Chennai municipal corporation after a gap of five years, by winning 90 of the 154 wards for which results had been declared so far, state election commission sources said.
Its allies Congress, PMK, CPI and DPI won 37, 17, and two each respectively of the 155 wards in the civic body.
The AIADMK, which had won 77 wards in the 2001 polls to the corporation and seven of the 14 Assembly seats from the city in the May elections, could win only four seats so far, while its ally MDMK won one.
The BSP is making a maiden entry into the corporation with one of its nominee being elected.
The opposition AIADMK and the MDMK had alleged "large-scale booth capturing and rigging of the polls" by the ruling partymen.
The indirect elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Salem corporations would be held later this month.
