Vishwa Hindu Parishad, actively supported by the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata
Party today, organised a token fast in protest against the Setusamudram project
demanding preservation of 'Ramasethu' which they feared will be destroyed once
the project is implemented.
Activists undertook a day's fasting in different places including Bangalore,
Dharwad, Mysore Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Bellary and Belgaum. They condemned the
move of the Centre to go ahead with the project despite the widespread protests
from Hindus.
The protestors called upon the Hindu community to fight unitedly against the
project.
The bridge, which was built by Hanuman to help Lord Rama to reach Lanka, was
being destroyed by the Centre which was not bothered about the sentiments of
the majority of the people in the country, they accused.
Leaders said delegations from all parts of the state would participate in a
rally to be held in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on August 26.
