| Bangalore: A 27-year-old married wo-man was attacked with acid in Cholanayakanahalli in Hebbal police limits in Bangalore on Tuesday night. The suspect is a 37-year-old married man who committed the crime because the victim had spurned his advances, reports DHNS from Bangalore.
The victim is Jacqueline Asha, a beautician who is a resident of Cholanayakanahalli. The victim is married to Albert, a businessman, for the last seven years. The incident occurred near Sumangali Sevashram around 8 pm when she was returning home from her beauty parlour at R T Nagar. Two persons, who came on a motorcycle, splashed acid on her and fled.
Public along with the police rushed her to a private hospital where she is said to be recovering. She has received 16 per cent burns, according to the police. In a statement to the police, Asha has said that one Sanjeev (37), a resident of Chola-nayakanahalli who owns a shop in Mota Arcade, had shown interest in her. She had told him to keep away and about three months ago, she had even tied Rakhi to him. But he continued to bother her and about 15 days ago, he telephoned her and threatened to pour acid on her.
“The victim is recovering. The suspects and the culprits will be arrested soon,” Mr Alok Mohan, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), told Deccan Herald.

On April 10, 2003, the headmaster of Mugunur Primary school near Ilkal, in Bagalkot district threw acid on his colleague Thara. He was jealous of her popularity. In 2003, in Hoysalalu village in Chikamagalur district, a young shopkeeper threw acid on Malini, whom he apparently loved.
In Bangalore, Haseena was attacked with acid by her former employer. The accused had committed the crime to teach her a lesson for refusing to rejoin his concern, which she had quit owing to the firm’s bankrupt state.
While in Bidar on Holiday, Vidyavathi, mother of four, was splashed with acid, in Mysore, Shanti was attacked with acid by her husband.
In 2001, Nagamma from Haladipura village in Uttar Kannada district succumbed to injuries sustained when her companion Shivu threw acid on her.
Noorjahan, a mother of three, was soaked in acid for refusing the advances of a chemical factory owner’s son. She fetched water from the factory for her canteen everyday. |
