| The Tamil month of Adi is significant for more than one reason. It is during this month that the festival of Thiruvadipooram is celebrated across Tamil Nadu. It is on this day that Andal was born. Andal is the Divine composer of Tiruppavi. Tiruppavi has been popularised by the legendary artiste M.L.Vasanthakumari. Other younger artistes have followed MLV in popularizing Andal’s composition. For Carnatic music buffs, this Adi month should be pleasant. For, Mylapore Fine Arts Club is conducting a series of concerts of top-notch artistes like Sudha Raghunathan, A.Kanya Kumari, O.S.Tyagarajan and others. These concerts are scheduled to be held from July 23 to 27. They are being organized by Balaganamrutham and Karnataka College of Percussion. These concerts have been titled 'Mid-Season Music Marvel'. Quite appropriately, indeed. After all, the month of Marghazi is still a few months to go. Marghazi is the month of music. Perhaps, the Adi concerts by Mylapore Fine Arts Club prepare the rasikas and are a sort of curtain raiser to the coming music season. The Adi concerts are held for the ninth consecutive year. |
