Hamsanandi
Hamsanandi is a Shadava Janya raga derived from the 53rd Mela Gamanaschrama. It is similar to the raga “Sohini” in Hindustani music. It is a beautiful and captivating raga. This has come into vogue in the recent times. The notes figuring in this raga are Sa, Suddha Ri (Rishaba), Antara Ga (Gandhara), Prati Ma (Madhyama), Chatusruti Dha (Daivatha) and Kakali Ni (Nishada). It is Sarvaswara Gamakavarika raga. Pratyahata gamaka adds extra beauty to this raga. It is an evening raga.

Papanasam Sivan had composed the kriti “Srinivasa Tiruvengadamudayan”, rendered by many musicians in concerts as a tukkada. Muthiah Bhagavathar had composed the kriti “Needu Mahima” and a tillana in this raga. Swati Tirunal had composed the kriti “Pahi Jagajanani” and Purandara Dasa the kriti “Kandene Govinda” in Hamsanandi.
