The cassette rips open with the invocation of Suruti varnam ‘Entho Premato’ that is neatly followed by a short sketch of saveri. listen to sample. While Sumithra Vasudev develops on the raga alapana, one can observe the strict adherence to sampradaya interwoven with nuances that emerge with grace and dignity. Her elegant rendition of the kritis ‘Kshitija Ramanam’ and ‘Neevada’ is quite resplendent. The delineation of the raga Sankarabharanam with the visesha prayogas and soul-stirring sancharas encompassing the different octaves are indicative of Sumithra’s disciplined mind and training. Although her voice is more comfortable in the mandhya and mandra sthayi sancharas, she has the capacity of producing swift waves of sangatis with an amazing clarity and quality. Her exquisite and attentive execution of ‘Avataram Seididuveere’ (Jhonpuri) and ‘Dasara Nindisabeda’ (Tilang) is evident that this promising artiste belonging to the crop of younger generation would carve a niche for herself in the field.The enthusiasitc team - Embar kannan (violin), B.Ganapathi Ram (Mridangam) and S.Karthick (Ghatam) have provided an efficient support to the artiste enhancing the beauty of her presentation.- Sudha Sankaran.
