Sharanu sidhi vinayaka (in Sourashtram) is the opening song in saketharaman’s concert (live at Narada Gana Sabha - 2000) Released by HMV. The Violin is heard very subdued and the mikes for the Mridangam is highly imbalanced. A sense of tensed and hurried presentation is felt throughout the concert. He proceeds to sing kalyani ragam which could have been rendered with more weighty classicism. Good violin accompaniment for the ragam and a decent solo piece of kalyani too. Yethavunaraa is the choice. Few unwanted brigas give the listeners a slight tension. An incomplete song in the ‘A’ side of the tape is the last item. Side ‘B’ starts with the violinist’s turn of neraval playing. Saketharaman’s performance is a very average one on the whole. The much heard yennathavam seidhanai yasodha comes as a thukkada. The inlay card has incomplete (broken sentences) details about the vocalist. This is one of HMV’s latest release.
