Sangita Kalanidhi M.S.Gopalakrishnan and Narmada have once again proved theirmettle in Charsur Digital Work Station's latest release, kutcheri. Playingin perfect harmony, making the best use of two violins, they have given us amelodious treat. The ragas selected are the not too common ragas.The first song is Tatvamariya in Ritigaula, set to aadi taalam. The song ishandled well with some swaras to add to its melody. Next comes a crisp number,Terateyaga in Gaulipanthu ragam set to Adi taalam. This is fast, crisp andimpressive.An elaborate raga alapana of Mohana Kalyani follows, bringing out many of thespecialities of the raga. The song in the raga is Seva Srikantam, adornedwith a lot of swarams.Side B starts with Ramabhirama in Darbar set to Misra chapu taalam. The tempois fast and is engrossing. Faster than this is the next number, SoBillu inJaganMohini, set to Rupakam. The song is best with swarams too. A short andsweet alapana of Ananda Bhairavi follows, changing the tempo and the mood of thelistener. The alapana brings out the charm of the ragam and at the same time,is not too long. The selection in this ragam is Oh Jagadamba. Next comesBogindra Saayinam in Kuntalavarali set to Khanda Chapu taalam. The violinsalmost pronounce the words, thus exhibiting the bowing skills of theinstrumentalists. The rest of the concert features Kaliyuga Varadan inBrindavana Saranga set to Adi taalam, Manasa Sancharare set to Adi taalam anda Tiruppugazh, all rendered very well. J Vaidhyanathan has done full justice tohis meticulous style in accompanying for instrumental music and has shown a veryhigh standard of rhythmic support while giving his best to enhance the concert.
