Dr.N.Ramani, one of the few who have mastered the flute, has once againenthralled us with his wonderful music in this cassette. He had the grandopportunity to learn from the great master, Mali where he mastered the areas ofSruthi and laya. To the listener who expects to hear traditional classicalmusic, this is it. To the layman, who just wants to listen to good music, hismusic is appealing.In this cassette, he starts off with ?Sarasijanabha? in Kamboji. A short piecein the ragam is also rendered and this shows his mastery over the ragam and hiscontrol over the instrument. The notes flow continuously, effortlessly andgracefully. Next is a slightly elaborate Gowri Manohari. His sense of sruthi isamazing.Brovasamaya in this raga has us wondering if the instrument isreally pronouncing the words. The sahityam is adhered to sincerely. Next comesMatti mattikki in Mohanam. He has taken Kaapi as the main ragam for thisconcert and gives an elaborate rendering of the ragam. His imagination andcreativity make this alapana really worth listening. Be it the high or the lowoctaves, he has done a wonderful job. Next, he handles rare ragas likeKanthamani, Swara Ranjani and Kundalavarali with equal genius.Today, where innovation is a way of life, Ramani has skillfully combinedtradition and innovation. Other than enjoying the technicalities of his music,we are also filled with a feeling of peace as we listen mainly sue to the yearsof practice and his deep involvement. In this cassette, he is accompanied bySridhar on the Violin, Srimushnam Raja Rao on the Mridangam and E.M.Subramanianon the Ghatam.- vidya
