T Rukmini, the renowned Violin artiste of the century, recently received the title 'Sangeetha Choodamai' conferred by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. Rare collections of excerpts from her live concerts over the years have been brought out as a double cassette album. There are totally ten pieces and a fairly good collection of the same has been made. A good selection of songs are contained. Lalgudi Jayaraman's Varnam in Bouli comes as the first item and a not so commonly heard Aanmaavaana Ganapathiyin (composition of Subramanya Bharathiar) in Hamsadwani follows with interesting swara patterns. A very peaceful and soul stirring Raga elaboration with an equally good Nannu Vidachi is brought out on the next side. Devi Neeye thunai is selected for elaboration in ragam (Kiravani) and swaras for the Pallavi.Ragam, Tanam Pallavi in Kapi occupies the a major portion of the second side of Volume 2. The design of the cassette cover needs special mention. A neat job has been done which stands out for the its attractive design.An album worth buying and preserving.
