N. Ramamurthy is blessed with a voice of good timbre which he uses effectively to portray Pantuvarali raga in detail and follows it up with the Dikshitar Classic "Ramanatham Bhajeham" to create a classical milieu. In 'Darini Telusokonti", however, the penchant for too many sangathis (mostly mechanical) robbed his presentation. This is a Tyagaraja piece for which the padantara has been well settled by his sishyas and succeeding generations of Vidvans have loyally abided by it.In "Mariveregathi" (Anandabharravi), "Vagaladi" (Behag), his presentation had warmth and sensibility. The Sivan composition "Karunai Varumo" in Charukesi raga is appealing but shades of Simhavangiri creep in, perhaps due to lack of adequate stress on the Maisikhi Mishada to distinguish it from former. The overall impression of this young artist is that he has assets of voice, laya and gnana which can take him far provided greater discipline is observed by him. He should know that they are occasions when 'less is more'
